Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California
Diane Phakonekham the current Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central California (BBBSCC). Diane comes to BBBSCC with more than 20 years of management experience, working in management since 1995. She received a Bachelor of Science in Child Development, a Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling (both from California State University-Fresno) along with minors in psychology and criminology. Diane was recognized as Majaree Mason Center 2017 Top Ten Professional Business Women of the Year; 2018 ABC Pacific Asian American Heritage Month honoree; 2019 Business Street’s “40 Under 40” honoree and serves on the Executive Board for North Fresno Rotary.
Currently, there are 306 Big Brothers Big Sisters nationwide, and BBBSCC is now ranked in the top 3 for the Western Region. Diane and her team expanded their High School Bigs program from 1 school district, changing the focus on not just the one-on-one mentoring but also the academia, tracking report cards, reading level, social and emotional data, in the now 17 school districts being served with a 98% graduation rate. For the last five years, BBBSCC was nationally recognized for meeting and excelling in the national goals for a mentoring program. Although this is a great accomplishment, Phakonekham stated, “Giving a child hope and helping them see their full potential is the greatest achievement we can ask for.”
